Today I will be talking about Defiance by CJ Redwine. It’s an adventure book mixed with a little girl power. The next book to be called Deception will be released August 27th of this year.

The novel follows Rachel Adams, a girl like no other in the city of Baalboden who has been taught how to track, hunt and fight by her father. When he fails to return from one of his courier missions, he is deemed dead. On top of that, Commander Chase names Logan, her father’s apprentice, Rachel’s new protector. Things get awkward as Rachel remembers how she declared her love for Logan but got rejected. And yet, Rachel and Logan don’t believe her father is dead. They plan to climb the wall and search for him, but plans change. In the forest beyond the city’s walls roams a monster that destroys and burns villages. As rachel embarks on her journey, she meets friends, enemies, and finally finds the love she desires.

Defiance is a trilling book with suspence and action. There’s fights, sneaking around, and a evil ruler that everyone hates. What more could you ask for? Rachel kicks some ass in this book but you cant help but feel sympathy for the loss of her father, supposedly. The monster that causes chaos all over the kingdom is frightening and turns everyones lives upside down. Overall, i loved the book because of its love story and action filled plot!

If you like this book, you would like Graceling series and the Divergent series.

Thank you to the eight people who are following me! I appreciate that some people are liking my posts 🙂 And if you know a book that is similar to one of my books I talk about, I’d love to see a comment about it. So don’t be afraid!

Now on to my next review will be about a single book as of now, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. The sequel named Siege and Storm is set to be released on June 4, 2013. Anyone can read the first 5 chapters of the next book online for free on multiple websites.

The book follows a young woman named Alina. As a child, her parents were killed, and she was forced to be educated in the Duke’s house. There she meets her friend Mal in which they grow close. Eventually, two Grisha examiners come to see if either of them have special abilities. If they do, they get whisked away to a special school where they learn to use their abilities. But neither of them do, or so it seems… Once they grow up, the story finds both of them working for the 2nd army. Alina is a mapmaker while Mal is a talented tracker. When they both head out into the Shadow Fold (a strip of darkness filled with human-eating monsters), Mal is attacked and something awakes in Alina when she sees him in danger. The arrival of her ability brings her into a new world that she could have never thought she’d be a part of. She meets the most powerful man in the kingdom, the Darkling. She meets the King and Queen. She even trains with all the other Grisha, even though her powers and destiny are greater than their own. Love appears, treachery occurs, and a darkness arises that Alina must fight against or else she loses control of her life.

The novel, Shadow and Bone, is filled with magic, suspense and nightmares. Bardugo balances the love aspect of her story perfectly with the darker, more ominous aspect of the book. The book is not too frightening for young readers, while isn’t too innocent in nature. The relationship between Alina and Mal forms overtime and makes me smile, knowing they both care for each other. Also the relationship because Alina and the Darkling is interesting because it shows Alina’s dark side. The overall story plot keeps the reader interested throughout the entire novel which is definitely something to be proud of!
